I recently stumbled upon Mes Amies Soaps on Instagram and was blown away by their consciously crafted message. Their mission is to provide the world with affordable, vegan, and cruelty-free beauty products. That was the first thing that caught my eye, but, then I found out that all of the products are handmade by the founder, Christianna (24 years old) in her mobile, solar-powered apothecary–a 2009 Chevrolet Express van. Yup, things just got WAY more interesting!
Christianna is a young entrepreneur with a really inspiring and unique story. She served in the US Navy for 4 years as an Arabic translator, but soon realized she was morally opposed to the mission and was granted an honorable discharge as a conscientious objector. She now travels around the country in her van visiting famous landmarks, beautiful cities, attending craft fairs, and more. (She’s basically my spirit animal and I love her business because it means helping change the way we look at beauty products as well as inspiring others to live their dreams. Of course, her products are amazing too!)
I tried the Facial Mask Bar with Activated Charcoal and have been using it for about three months now and have plenty to last me many more months. There are few ingredients, all of which are legible: kaolin clay, aloe vera juice, witch hazel, activated charcoal, shea butter, and frankincense essential oil. I like to use it at night and my skin feels really clean afterward but it’s not harsh on my sensitive skin, which is really comforting and a great reminder that I’m not putting a bunch of chemicals on my skin. Plus, her products are so affordable, there’s no excuse to use any of the store-bought, cheap, big business face masks. You can now purchase one of her monthly boxes if you’d like to sample a few products, the February “Fall in Love” Box is only $19.99!
Christianna founded Mes Amies Soaps in 2016, to provide affordable, all-natural products for those who care about their health, our animal friends, and Mother Earth. After getting out of the military, she decided to follow her gypsy dreams of the open road by converting a 2009 Chevrolet Express van into a home (and studio) on wheels.
When asked about some of the life lessons she has learned since this adventure, Christianna said, “Running your own business is hard, and it’s even harder in only 50 sq ft of space!” She is so inspired by her passion that she says it doesn’t even feel like work at all. Being her own boss and chasing her own dreams has shown her that she made the right decision when she took that leap of faith in 2016. She now says she can’t even imagine going back to work for someone else and their dreams.
“We all have only one chance at life, and we ought to make the most of it however we please! Some people think I’m quite strange for wanting to live in a van (down by the river, yes I’ve heard that a thousand times!), but I have everything I need with an arms reach, and I get to wake up in a different beautiful place every day, meeting people and having experiences I would have never had otherwise. I highly encourage everyone to research what they put in AND on their bodies, to reconsider whether they REALLY need that shiny new materialistic thing, and to do something every day that puts a smile on their face.” – Chistianna, Mes Amies Soaps
